The 5G ‘living lab’ not only symbolises the digital strides in offshore wind but also accentuates the sustainable future we’re driving towards, with the integration of high-speed communications. With fifteen 5G radio transmitters strategically positioned across five sites, including four wind turbines, we’re merging green energy with next-gen technology.

Spanning the port of Grimsby and the Lynn and Inner Dowsing wind farm, the 5G PORTAL is set to usher in cutting-edge solutions, reinforcing the UK’s stature as a forerunner in the global offshore wind sector.

AutoTrailer – Factory Logistics in the 5G Campus Network

As part of a three-year research project between 2019 and 2022, m3connect explored the application possibilities of an intelligent factory in the logistics domain in collaboration with three Bavarian partner companies and supported by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy. Under the project name “Autonomous and Connected Logistics,” autonomous transport systems and mobile devices were tested under real conditions in a 5G campus network at the BMW Group Dingolfing plant.

m3connect conducted this subproject in collaboration with partners Accelleran, a manufacturer of RAN software, and Benetel, a provider of RAN hardware.

Our journey in the realm of Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) has been marked by constant innovation, collaboration, and technological advancement. Recently, we have taken significant strides forward through our collaboration with Digital Catapult and Vodafone, bringing about a unique opportunity for driving progress in the Open RAN field.

During the event, our CSO, Arnaud Polster, joined a panel discussion shedding light on the innovation potential of AI/ML in Open RAN. He emphasised the significance of RIC use cases for ecosystem readiness and highlighted the critical role of Open RAN in fostering supply chain diversification and enhancing network energy efficiency.

Node-H and Accelleran show 5G SA O-RAN interoperability in German industrial trials

Node-H and Accelleran are supporting 5G SA trials with leading Germany companies in which Accelleran’s RIC and CU work alongside Node-H’s DU/RU to create low-cost but sophisticated Campus Networks.

Node-H and Accelleran have worked together to integrate their 5G SA technology to seamlessly support a 5G SA solution which combines the RIC and CU from Accelleran and the DU and RU from Node-H, integrated on the technology of its hardware partners, Askey and T&W. This provides mobile operators and system integrators an O-RAN compliant solution in a simple-to-deploy form and as low-cost solution. It also provides an upgrade path to support a range of indoor and outdoor products supporting different powers and bands, all based around the same low-cost hardware platform, as well as a roadmap to Rel-16 and Rel-17 as the platforms evolve.
